Welcome to Burney
Jul 10, 2024There’s something starting in the small town of Burney.
Like its namesake, Burney Falls, which draws many visitors for its beauty and wonder, Burney is full of history, community, and a desire for revitalization. Every big dream starts with small steps, and that’s where we found ourselves this week.
Tola Levison, WBC Consultant, and I, Victoria Rodriguez, WBC Program Director, had the privilege of visiting the Burney Chamber of Commerce. Sandy, the warm and welcoming voice of the Chamber, introduced us to some of the small business owners and movers and shakers. We quickly realized that there’s more to this town than meets the eye; there is a deep connection among its residents and a vibrant spirit of renewal.

Our meeting with the Burney Chamber provided an opportunity to understand the community's needs and how the WBC can best serve them. We discussed potential classes, training, and events that could benefit the community. The residents of Burney have a profound understanding of their town's evolution and a clear vision of where they want to go in the future.
One conversation with a local business owner stood out. He shared his ideas for continuing to grow this town as a destination. With Burney Falls drawing 300,000 visitors during COVID, the potential is already there. But the question is how? How can we use the lessons of the past to inform the future? His insights will help guide the Chamber’s future actions. His hopes for the future remind us of the resilience and passion that define this community.

We are excited to support the Burney Chamber of Commerce and be part of this new era for the town. We invite everyone to join us on this journey of revitalization. Together, we can help Burney’s dreams become a reality by supporting local businesses and nurturing future entrepreneurs in the area. Remember to visit the falls and experience the beauty and potential that Burney has to offer.
Sidenote 1:
There has been some misinformation about Burney Falls. Contrary to some public impressions, Burney Falls is still open to the public, and the community is happy to welcome visitors. The one temporary change is that the trail to the bottom pool is closed, but you can still see the sights and visit the lake, which is an adventure in itself.
